Regulation Inside the Lottery Useful Links
The National Lottery is the most heavily regulated part of the gaming market. Camelot is required to meet over 2000 licence commitments to operate the National Lottery.

The National Lottery Commission is a non-departmental public body which is responsible for the regulation of The National Lottery, a task formerly carried out by the Office of The National Lottery (OFLOT) whom it succeeded in April 1999.

The five Commissioners and the Commission's staff of 35 are charged with three principal responsibilities as laid out in the 1993 National Lottery Act. They are:

  • ensure the Lottery is operated with all due propriety.

  • ensure the interests of participants are protected.

  • maximise returns to the Good Causes.
