Miley is heading towards the Olympic Games in London in superb style as her fantastic 2009 proved. At the World Championships in Rome, the Scottish teenager produced a fine performance in the final of the 200m Individual medley where she finished sixth in a world record race.

It was the same position she achieved at the Beijing Olympics in the 400m Individual Medley Final having been fourth - just missing out on bronze - at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

But gold was not far away. In December, at the LEN European short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul, Miley won the women's 400m Individual Medley and took bronze in the women's 200m Individual Medley.

It was some month because she then broke the European short course record in the women's 400m Individual Medley at the British Gas Duel in the Pool in Manchester with 4:24.51.

She trains in a 25-metre pool where she is coached by her father Patrick, an offshore oil rig helicopter pilot who flies in and out for training sessions.
