Manchester couple, Sharon and Nigel Mather, have scooped a whopping £12,408,000 jackpot after matching all five numbers and two lucky stars in the EuroMillions draw on Friday 11th June.

The couple from Sale, who have two children Rhys and Lewis, only realised they had won the life-changing sum after Sharon checked the results on TV when they returned home from holiday.

The ticket was bought during a week's break to Minehead, which was a gift courtesy of Sharon's father, John Morris, who wanted to treat the couple to some time away with the children.

Sharon said: "We were delighted when my dad offered to pay for us to have a week away with the children. Unfortunately, he hasn't been well recently and we had to cut the holiday short to come back and see him in hospital.

"He is now recovering well and we were thrilled to be able to tell him that thanks to his generosity, he has given us an amazing gift. We will be making sure we return the favour, as our lucky win was all thanks to him".

Sharon, who was born and brought up in Cardiff, is an information service officer for Trafford Council. She recently returned to work after maternity leave and is looking forward to being able to spend more time with the children.

She said: "I really missed Rhys and Lewis as soon as I went back to work, so I am delighted that I am now able to stay at home and spend as much time with them as possible".

Nigel Mather, a hotel manager at Menzies Pinewood Hotel, in Manchester, has had to work every Christmas Day for the last 25 years. The couple are now looking forward to spending this holiday season in the sun.

Sharon said: "Hopefully we can spend Christmas Day this year somewhere hot like Dubai or Barbados. More importantly we will be spending it as a family".

First on the list for the lucky couple is to purchase a set of new cars. Nigel is looking at an Audi Q7, which he was recently told he would have to wait up to eight months for, while Sharon has her sights set on a Peugeot 207.
