EuroMillions winners

What does it feel like to win a big EuroMillions prize? The phrase we hear a lot is “completely life-changing”. That’s hardly surprising given the incredible prizes the game has been delivering since it was launched on 7th February 2004.

The biggest EuroMillions jackpot won by a UK player is a staggering £195Million in 2022. And 19 UK players have won prizes of £100Million or more. These are life-changing prizes indeed. Big jackpots are only part of the story, of course – millions of people win EuroMillions prizes each time there’s a draw. For example, the EuroMillions draw on Friday 28th March 2025 created more than 1.4Million UK winners who shared a cash prize fund of over £7.2Million.

Recent EuroMillions winners

We love it when one of our big EuroMillions winners chooses to share their incredible news with the world. You can find the amazing stories of some of those who have here. One thing is certain: there is no typical EuroMillions winner. Some recent winners include a Yorkshireman who works for the NHS, a greenkeeper from Wales and a 15-member syndicate of teachers and staff from a school in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. Wherever you live, whatever you do, a big EuroMillions win gives you the opportunity to make dreams come true.

Frances – helping others is ‘addictive’

Frances and Patrick Connolly scooped almost £115Million on EuroMillions on New Year’s Day 2019. The first thing Frances bought after winning: underwear from M&S costing £12!

Since then, generous Frances, estimates she has given away more than half of her incredible prize to charitable causes as well as friends and family. She has described helping others as “addictive”. The couple’s biggest purchase to date was a mansion in County Durham with seven acres of land. Frances says she starts every day at home with a 7:30am swim, where she is joined by a group of friends.

Bill and Cath – a feast of fun

Bill and Cath Mullarkey are living their dream. Since winning £1Million on EuroMillions in 2017, the Coventry couple have opened their own restaurant on the Caribbean Island of St Lucia. Bill, a chef, met Cath when he was working at a hotel in her native St Lucia. They bought a plot of land on the island, but after moving back to Coventry they struggled to find the money to develop it. Now, they live in a three-storey home they designed and built and serve up Caribbean cuisine using the island's locally grown and caught produce.

Cath said, “We work hard but can also be on the beach within a couple of minutes. This place means so much to both of us after the journey we have both been on to get here.”

Andy Hornsby – a New Year’s Eve adventure

New Year’s Eve 2024 was extra special for Yorkshireman Andy Hornsby. Just ten minutes before the clocks struck midnight the NHS worker discovered he’d won an amazing £1Million EuroMillions prize. He said, “I’ll admit I’ve had some memorable New Year’s Eves, but nothing comes close to this.”

Andy, who works as a specialist medical delivery driver, struggled to believe he’d become a millionaire after spending £2.50 on a Lucky Dip ticket. He and his fiancé, Mandy, are looking forward to exploring the UK in a brand-new VW campervan. They’ve also got their eye on some overseas holidays. Andy said, “It’s crazy to think the world is our oyster!”

Life after winning EuroMillions

Winning a big EuroMillions prize is a life-changing experience. Suddenly, things that seemed like faraway dreams are within your reach. It’s a lot to deal with and naturally, there are adjustments to be made. Andrew Carter, senior winners’ advisor at Allwyn UK, the operator of The National Lottery, said most EuroMillions winners take their time to consider what to do with the money. He explained, “If they’ve got a mortgage, they pay it off; if they’ve got kids, they set them up. And if they’ve got a dream they go and do it.”

Anyone who wins £1Million or more on The National Lottery – regardless of whether they choose to share their news – gets free access to legal and financial advice and a wellbeing expert to help them make the most of their win. Spend your winnings wisely

We all fantasise about having £1Million or more in the bank, but when the dream becomes reality, there are some important questions to be answered. Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about winning EuroMillions.

Can winners remain anonymous?

A: Yes, absolutely. People can decide to share their amazing news, of course, but it’s entirely up to them.

Are EuroMillions wins taxable?

A: There is no tax to be paid on the win. When players buy a National Lottery ticket, 12p in every pound is paid to the Treasury in Lottery Duty, but there's no tax imposed on the initial prize. However, if the win is invested and produces income, it will be taxed in the same way as any other income.

Who is entitled to your win?

A: This is straightforward: we pay the prize to the owner of the ticket.

How can you gift your wins?

A: You can certainly gift all or part of your winnings, but there can be implications so make sure you take advice first.

Remember, you’re not on your own if you become a EuroMillions millionaire. All winners will be offered free access to legal and financial specialists who can answer all your questions. EuroMillions winners can also speak to our wellbeing expert. And if a winner decides to share their fantastic news, they will be introduced to a community of winners who know first-hand what it’s like to become a National Lottery millionaire.
