Life changing

93 and still cutting up the dance floor

In 1961, Mrs Palmer-Wade, now 93, left her loved ones behind and came to the UK as part of the Windrush generation, bringing nothing with her but the ribbon she used to tie her daughter’s hair.

Fiercely independent but alone, she is one of many elderly people across the UK who battle with isolation, often going long periods without seeing anyone. But all this changed when her son introduced her to Ageless Teenagers, a National Lottery funded project that brings fun and friendship to hundreds of older people through its Caribbean dance parties.

Ageless Teenagers received nearly £50,000 of additional National Lottery funding after winning the The People’s Projects, an annual event giving people the chance to decide where National Lottery funding goes.
