Meet our National Lottery Awards finalists

The National Lottery Awards take place in September and now it’s your chance to vote for your favourite National Lottery funded athlete. Thanks to you, Olympic and Paralympic athletes have the opportunity to train and compete for Team GB, but this category isn’t selected on athletic prowess alone. Alex Danson, Hockey

Always the first to acknowledge the athletes around her, Alex Danson is the epitome of a team player.

With her team, Alex won Commonwealth bronze in 2018 and Olympic gold in Rio 2016.

Outside of competition, Alex encourages youngsters to take up hockey, including through her own academy.

Emma Wiggs, Para Canoe

This two-time Paralympian and six-time World Champion has represented Great Britain in both sitting volleyball and para canoeing.

Emma won gold in para canoeing at the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016.

Outside of competition, Emma is an advocate for anti-doping and has been awarded an MBE for Services to Canoeing.

Duncan Scott, Swimming

At just 20 years of age, Duncan is already a multi medal winning athlete.

Hailing from Glasgow, Duncan brought home six swimming medals from this year's Commonwealth Games, making him the most successful Scot ever at a single games.

Since returning from the Games, Duncan has helped people of all abilities learn to swim in South Ayrshire, where he grew up.

Katie Archibald, Cycling

At 24 years of age, Katie is already a multiple World and European cycling champion, in both individual and team events.

In 2018, Katie brought home three Commonwealth Games medals. Katie has inspired many people to take part in cycling, ride for fun and get involved in racing.

Lizzy Yarnold, Skeleton

Lizzy Yarnold cemented her place in sporting history after winning every major title in her sport of skeleton in just 407 days!

Since her Olympic wins, Lizzy has visited a number of schools encouraging young girls to take part in sport and boost their confidence around body image.

Menna Fitzpatrick & Jen Kehoe, Para Ski

Menna and Jen are Great Britain's most successful winter Paralympians this year!

Despite having only 5% of her vision, Menna, with her guide Jen, won four medals at this year’s winter Paralympic Games in alpine skiing.

Menna and Jen use their time away from the slopes to help support and promote para alpine skiing and to encourage people to get into sport.

Mahama Cho, Taekwondo

Mahama has excelled at Taekwondo, winning silver at the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships.

Off the mat, Mahama spends time visiting local schools - a keen advocate for anti-bullying, he speaks of his experience adapting to life in the UK at the age of 8.

The winning athlete will get a £5,000 cash prize to give to a National Lottery funded project of their choice.
