Great filmmaking can change lives. The BFI is the lead body for film in the UK and awards National Lottery funding to fund new bold, distinctive and diverse UK films, the talent that creates them and opportunities for audiences to enjoy them across the UK.

As part of its ambition, the BFI also invests in film education activities including 10,000 film clubs around the UK through schools and youth groups, the BFI Film Academy which is opening doors to future that includes greater opportunities for a diverse generation of talented individuals to working in a dynamic and thriving film industry, and unlocking our film and television heritage for everyone to access.

The BFI has just announced a new five-year strategic plan, BFI2022, supporting and celebrating the future of film across every platform.

Today, technology and innovation is allowing filmmakers to experiment with film in new interactive ways and the BFI is primed to support risk-taking within this exciting artistic evolution.

There’s overwhelming evidence of UK creativity capturing global attention. From Ken Loach and Andrea Arnold being feted at Cannes, through to films such as Bridget Jones’s Baby capturing the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide. The future potential for UK film at home and abroad is enormous, showcasing British culture, creativity and commercial endeavour.
