Life changing

#SuperMike helps change lives of local children

Mike Edwards is an extraordinary man. A dad of five and grandfather of two, he’s also a father-figure to hundreds of young people in East Manchester through his volunteer work with lottery-funded StreetGames, one of the UK’s leading youth sports charities.

Mike, 55, devotes his time to coaching young people, getting them involved in sport and volunteering at community events, as a means to combat anti-social behaviour.

After getting into trouble with gangs in his youth, Mike turned his life around and put himself through university before beginning a career working with young people in his local area – to give something back to his community. For the past 15 years he’s devoted his life to helping local kids – giving them the chance to enjoy sport, to volunteer and make a difference in their communities and the opportunity to aspire to greater things. Mike works tirelessly – and often without getting paid – as a coach, mentor and a role model to so many young people. Watch the film above to hear from some of the young people he’s helped, talk about the great work he does. Thank you Mike!

And thanks to you, StreetGames UK has received more than £9 million of National Lottery funding. Last year, more than 82,000 people took part in their projects, around 6,000 qualifications were handed out and 1,900 new volunteers were recruited.
