Life changing

Take a look at the awesome things you made happen in August

It’s mind-boggling all the things you make happen when you play the lottery – from supporting our athletes to saving our heritage. Over the past few weeks, you’ve helped over a thousand projects in the UK by raising more than £130 million – money that will be used to make a real difference to our communities.

You’ve supported incredible people

  • With women’s football riding high after the best ever result in the Women’s World Cup and an historic FA Cup final, £3.7 million went to help more women and girls play the beautiful game
  • As we marked one year to go until the next Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio , you continued supporting our athletes on their journey, as they competed at championships around the world, including the Athletics Championships in China, Rowing World Championships in France and European Wheelchair Basketball Championships in the UK
  • August is festival season and you helped ensure there was something for everyone with £58,000 to the Devizes International Street Festival and £13,000 to Phoenix Festival in Cirencester
  • A massive boost to the arts across the UK – you supported innovative, new artists like Laura Kriefman from Bristol, with £30,000 to create ‘Mass Crane Dance’, a large scale, visual extravaganza featuring London’s giant cranes; in Northern Ireland £1.5 million went to 57 arts organisations and in Scotland £1.8 million went to help 88 individual artists and organisations.

And preserved our history

  • £11.7 million to turn Kresen Kernow into the world’s largest collection of manuscripts, books, maps and photographs about Cornwall – Poldark fans rejoice!
  • £1.79million to save one of our most important WW1 warships – HMS Monitor M33 – the last surviving ship from Gallipoli
  • ‘Your Country Needs You’ – £900,000 to uncover Lord Kitchener’s impact on Doncaster’s heritage
  • £2.2 million to restore a Georgian masterpiece in Northamptonshire

You’ve helped restore natural beauty

  • After a £2.2 million refurbishment, thousands now flock to Northumberland Park for family fun
  • £357,000 to historic Teignbridge gardens in South Devon
  • £1.4 million to help protect the historic treasures on our coastline – from prehistoric forests to Roman remains and medieval ports

And created invaluable connections

  • £3.5 million for projects supporting families in need including £697,825 to train, place and support 75 assistance dogs with children with autism or physical disabilities
  • Over £32 million to 732 community projects across the UK, including village playgrounds, stroke awareness, mums and toddler groups and mental health support.
  • Over £200,000 to help put on The Railway Children at York’s Theatre Royal, giving families the chance to enjoy a real classic.
Thank you. Since The National Lottery began, you’ve supported over 450,000 projects across the UK and raised over £33 billion.
