Be part of Team GB

To celebrate the support you – yes, you – give our Olympians by playing The National Lottery, you’re invited to take part in I Am Team GB, the UK’s biggest ever sports day.

National Lottery players have raised more than £80 million each year to help fund elite athletes during the four–year build–up to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. So we’ve joined with ITV to launch ‘I Am Team GB’ and on 27th August you’re invited to join returning Olympians and famous faces from ITV at events across the UK.

To be part of this amazing day on the bank holiday weekend, visit www.iamteamgb.com to sign–up for free sporting events and activities in your area. From hockey to handball and rowing to running, hundreds of different sporting activities will be available to try.

As well as thousands of local sports venues and clubs up and down the country opening their doors to the public, two of ITV’s most iconic shows will also be inviting people to join them on Saturday 27th August. The famous cobbles of Coronation Street and the rolling hills and dales of Emmerdale will be open and welcoming you to take part in a whole host of sporting activities.

The events will also be a homecoming for our lottery–funded Olympic athletes when they return from Rio. One of the events taking place across the UK will be hosted by Olympic and world champion Greg Rutherford, who retained his European long jump title last week.

Greg said: “You don’t have to be an Olympian to be part of Team GB. National Lottery players make a huge difference through the support they give athletes and on the August bank holiday weekend, there is another amazing chance to be part of it. There will be thousands of fun, free events across the country so make sure you sign up, get involved and be part of Team GB!”

To encourage people to get active, ITV will also be switching off transmission for an hour across all channels to get the nation moving. At 9.30am on 27th August, the big switch–off will see ITV’s seven channels come off air for an hour to encourage the great British public to get up and out and involved in sport at one of the many events happening across the country.

The event is taking place in conjunction with the British Olympic Association (BOA), UK Sport and is supported by Join In.
