How you're growing grassroots rugby

Chesterfield Panthers RFC was established in 1919, as the country emerged bruised and battered from the devastation of the First World War. The call went out in the Derbyshire Times newspaper for interested locals to form a committee and the club has remained at the heart of the community ever since. Now, the club caters for players of all abilities and levels. With a starting age of just two-years-old, you'll find a rugby ball in the arms of local children as soon as they start toddling.

The Panther's popularity put pressure on its playing fields and ageing facilities, but with your support the club was able to move to a bigger and better ground. A National Lottery grant provided match-quality floodlighting for a full-size rugby pitch and lighting for a multi-use games area and grass training field. Now, the rugby facilities in the area are premier-standard and also enjoyed by a host of community sports and activities – encouraging exercise and nurturing future sporting talent.

Thanks to you, over £200 million has gone to thousands of grass-roots rugby projects across the UK, nurturing talent, pride and passion.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
