How you’re helping to unlock the power of play

Eureka in Halifax, West Yorkshire, is the national children’s museum; a place where children play to learn and grown-ups learn to play.

At Eureka, children from 0-11 can shake off everyday cares and lose themselves in imagining and experimenting. As they wander through six themed galleries, over 100 hands-on exhibits engage the senses through colour, touch, sound and sheer clamber-on-ability.

Light streams into the Living and Working Together gallery, a small-world recreation of a town square complete with its own musical fountain and story-telling tree. For the under-fives, the Sound Garden offers the sights, smells, sounds and textures of nature in a play-garden. The Global Garden and Desert Discovery galleries take children to diverse habitats across the world.

Your support has also transformed the whole Eureka site. The outside space, which was once a derelict railway yard, is now a child’s paradise with a huge “beach” sandpit for all-year-round sandcastle building, a play area and a fully accessible sensory trail.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
