Basketball heroes say thank you to sports volunteer

When basketball coach Jason Kennedy first helped out at Knights Wheelchair Basketball Club, he thought he would just be covering a one-off session. Fast-forward eighteen years and he’s at the helm of the club, mentoring young players and leading the coaching team.

Founded in 1990, The Knights gives players with disabilities the opportunity to train and compete in basketball. The club now supports over 50 players from across Northern Ireland, ranging in ages from seven to over forty and since joining the club Jason has become the lynch pin to its success.

Working his way up ranks of the club, Jason now dons the hat of Head Coach, Club Chairman and ever-reliable taxi driver, ferrying players the breadth of the country to compete.

To celebrate Jason’s involvement in the club, The National Lottery – with help from The Knights – surprised him at a trip to see his favourite team. Find out what happened when Jason went to watch The Harlem Globetrotters.
