Have your say in this year’s National Lottery Awards

Rita met Brian in 1956 at a Saturday dance. She was a student nurse, he was in the RAF. Now in their late seventies, and happily married for many years, they are still dancing at the Newbridge Memo where they first met, and are helping the venue to campaign for votes to win a National Lottery Award.

And it’s not alone, there are six outstanding finalists in this year’s heritage category.

The National Lottery Awards are the annual search for the UK’s favourite lottery-funded projects.

Winners will receive a £2,000 cash prize, an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy and attend a star-studded Awards ceremony, broadcast on BBC One in September.

Over the last 20 years, you’ve supported over 450,000 projects across the UK. The 49 finalists represent the variety and diversity of this funding – ranging from the high profile, like Lincoln Castle, to smaller, community-led projects like The Big Music Project (pictured here).

TV star and actor John Barrowman, who will be presenting the National Lottery Awards for the fifth time this year, says:

“The exceptionally selfless work carried out by National Lottery Awards finalists never fails to astound me. Their work deserves to be celebrated nationally; the community spirit, dedication and compassion.”

“It is crucial that you show your support for your local projects so they can get the national glory that they richly deserve. National Lottery players should swell with pride that £34 million of Lottery funding is raised every week for projects like these across the UK.”

There are seven categories, reflecting the main areas of National Lottery funding: arts, sport, heritage, health, environment, education and voluntary/charity.

Voting closes at midnight on Wednesday 29th July. To vote, please go to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards. You can also follow the campaign on twitter: #NLAwards.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
