Life changing

Come behind the scenes at this year's National Lottery Awards

The National Lottery Awards 2015 on BBC One were one of the most spectacular ever. Here's a sneak peek of some behind the scenes action from this year's event:

  • Pop star Peter Andre took time out of his busy Strictly training schedule to serenade The National Lottery Awards audience with a very smooth take on Frank Sinatra’s ‘Fly me to the moon’. Smooth, that is, until his microphone flew from his hand after an exuberant turn nearly hitting astronomer Russell Grant. Luckily he saw it coming (see what we did there?).

  • Countdown's glamorous Rachel Riley swapped maths for sport when she went to Erskine Homes – who provide care for ex-servicemen and women, many of whom are elderly or affected by ill-health. They had run a series of activities commemorating the Commonwealth Games, enabling the veterans to get active and create their own version of the event.

  • And Julian Clary had the audience in tears, although unusually for him it wasn’t tears of laughter. He shared his visit to Ministry of Stories – a writing and mentoring centre for young people - and the story of Melinda Ucaroglu, one of the young authors he met there.

A host of TV stars from Strictly, TOWIE and Eastenders joined show host John Barrowman and presenters including Martin Kemp and Ashley Banjo to celebrate the good causes you make possible just by playing the lottery.

John Barrowman said: "National Lottery players have been changing lives for 20 years - they currently raise over £34 million every week for projects across the UK. The National Lottery Awards recognise and celebrate the difference that Lottery-funded organisations, both large and small, make to local communities the length and breadth of the UK. They are all about making the unsung heroes behind life-changing projects feel like stars for the night and showing off their amazing work to viewers."

Celebrities enjoy the party (from left to right): TV presenter, Michaela Strachan, Lottery Draw Show presenter, Gabby Roslin and newly-weds and Strictly Come Dancing professionals Karen and Kevin.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
