National Deaf Children Society swims in the fast lane

The National Deaf Children Society’s Deaf-Friendly Swimming Project was recognised as the nation’s Best Sports Project at the recent National Lottery Awards in front of a national TV audience.

Staff and volunteers from the initiative were joined on the red carpet by celebrities such as John Barrowman, Kimberly Wyatt, Katie Derham and many of Team GB’s National Lottery funded Olympians.

The project was recognised for its inspirational work in breaking down the barriers that prevent young deaf people from taking part in swimming.

Ashleigh Scott from The National Deaf Children’s Society said:

“It is a wonderful achievement to receive a National Lottery Award on behalf of the NDCS and be recognised by the public for our work in trying to improve the health and wellbeing of young deaf children across the UK. The National Lottery Awards are a tremendous opportunity to raise awareness of the good work that we do and the positive impact National Lottery funding has.”
