St Helens libraries wins Lottery Award and stay in our good books

Where normally they might be saying ‘shhhh!’ they were shouting ‘yesss!’ When the St. Helens Libraries’ Cultural Hubs was voted the nation’s Best Arts Project in this year’s National Lottery Awards it was hard to contain the excitement. Beating over 600 other projects to win the Arts category, the award was presented on BBC One recently in front of a celebrity audience.

The project was recognised for its inspirational work using £249,600 of National Lottery funding to run a series of arts, music and drama sessions in libraries for more than 4,000 people across St Helens.

The prestigious award included £3,000 boosting Cultural Hubs’ diverse programme of arts based performances, giving local artists the chance to showcase their talent and creativity in St Helens.

Sue Williamson, Head of Libraries at St Helens, said:

“Thanks to everyone who voted for us, we are thrilled to win this award. Participants in this project have helped us bring so much great art to people in St Helens through our libraries. It wouldn’t have been possible without National Lottery funding, so I’d like to thank Lottery players.”
