Your People’s Projects winners

The votes are in and thanks to you 57 community groups across the UK are sharing a slice of £3 million of National Lottery funding.

Voted for by the public, The People’s Projects celebrates community groups across the UK, with the winners securing up to £50,000 of additional funding to continue to bring people together, build stronger communities and make a difference to people’s lives.

Let’s meet some of this year’s winners...

Shining Stars Community Adventures – Coatbridge, Scotland – Won £43,000

The volunteer-led project provides workshops in drama, musical theatre and dance for children with additional support needs. They will buy a mini-bus to allow them to take the young people out to perform at different venues and events across Scotland as well taking their Makaton Choir around care homes to perform to residents.

The Trinity Project – Cardiff, Wales – Won £49,241

This group will promote intercultural communication at their allotment site in Cardiff through gardening, cooking and eating bringing together refugees, asylum seekers and the wider community, and supporting the health and wellbeing of the participants.

Carers Gloucestershire – Gloucestershire – Won £48,516

The group support unpaid carers with a range of needs through bringing carers together and providing various activities for them to enjoy. Activities include short local trips for carers who are unable to take extended periods of time off, arts and crafts events, and short holiday breaks. The project aims to provide carers with holistic support and opportunities for friendship for those who feel lonely and isolated.

Learning for the Fourth Age – Leicester – Won £50,000

The group will use the process of baking bread and the pleasure of sharing fresh bread, as a way to bring older people living in care homes and sheltered housing together with their local communities. People will be trained to run regular community ‘bread and conversation’ sessions, with the aim of reducing loneliness and isolation and improving mental wellbeing.

The People’s Projects is a partnership between The National Lottery, Big Lottery Fund (one of the distributors of money raised by National Lottery players), STV and ITV to provide the public the chance to have their say in where a special £3 MILLION pot of National Lottery funding should go.
