By playing The National Lottery, you've helped Team Rubicon UK give our veterans a new purpose in life. Learn how the project has given ex-servicemen and women the opportunity to utilise their skills in disaster zones across the world.
For many of us, the word ‘veteran’ makes us think of those who served our country in World War I and II, but there are many more who fall under this term. Each year, approximately 15,000 people leave the UK Armed Forces, most of those will adapt to civilian life with no issues. But some find this change more of a challenge.
Team Rubicon is giving our veterans the opportunity to continue serving their country, uniting the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to deploy emergency response teams in the UK and around the world.
Thanks to National Lottery funding, Team Rubicon UK were able to recruit skilled volunteer veterans to help with disaster relief at home and internationally.
“In joining Team Rubicon, I rediscovered something I hadn’t realised I had lost after leaving the military. My problems suddenly seemed trivial compared to those living through a disaster. This allowed me to move forward with a reinvigorated sense of perspective and purpose.” Bags Simmons, British Army Veteran
