How the Simpson family discovered the healing power of music

Dealing with the loss of a loved one is incredibly hard. Kevin, his wife Rachel, and two daughters, Ella (11) and Lily (8) know this all too well. The family had to go through the very difficult experience of moving the girls’ much-loved grandma into Bradford’s Marie Curie Hospice as she approached the end of her life.

It was during this period they were supported by The Swan Song Project. They provide people facing bereavement with the opportunity to write and record their own original song. The brainchild of Ben ‘Buddy’ Slack, a songwriter and musician from Leeds, the experience enabled the family to process and articulate their emotions through song-writing.

Set up in 2017, The Swan Song Project received its very first round of funding through The National Lottery – which could only be given thanks to our amazing players.
