With your help, we ensure schools never forget the First World War

Most of us have heard about the horrors of the Great War and the horrendous conditions our forefathers experienced. Yet, few people know of the huge contribution made by Indian Sikh soldiers.

And it was this ‘hidden history’ that inspired Falcons Primary School in Leicester to set about educating their curious seven-year-olds. National Lottery funding helped this school and three other local schools - Krishna Avanti Primary School, Madani Schools Federation and St John The Baptist Primary School - explore the often overlooked contribution of multi-ethnic soldiers. It’s just one of the 1,500 educational projects you help fund exploring the First World War. A teacher from Falcons Primary School said:

“When I was at school, I had no idea about the Sikh contribution made during the war. Now the children understand that.”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
