Young Carers get the ultimate Christmas party

National Lottery millionaires have pulled out all the stops to give Young Carers from across Essex the ultimate Christmas party. The winners spent the day hard at work creating a magical winter wonderland before welcoming the party-goers to the exclusive venue. They then hosted the evening by serving food and drinks and entertaining the young VIP revellers, who are supported by the Essex charity, Action for Family Carers.

Party time

The Young Carers, who ordinarily are juggling normal school life with caring for a family member, were under strict instructions to take the night off and enjoy themselves. They were made to feel like true superstars with a number even being chauffeur driven to the party by the lottery winners.

A well-deserved night off

Essex carer and lottery winner Sue Richards, who revealed a £3Million win on a National Lottery Scratchcard in 2016, has some small understanding of the challenges these children face on a daily basis.

Sue explained, “These young people are massively affected by caring for someone close to them who has a long-term illness, a physical or sensory impairment, learning difficulties, mental illness or is affected by alcohol/substance misuse. I’ve been a carer for many years, so I can appreciate what they may go through on a daily basis but I’m an adult; to think these children have such a responsibility at such a young age is really very humbling.

"We all hope that the party we have laid on tonight shows our VIP guests how much they are valued, what an amazing job they are doing and also gives them a chance to really have fun. Judging by the shrieks of joy I think they are!”
