Ayrshire couple plan to push the boat out after win

A lifeboat technician and his wife are planning to catch some winter sun after a £78,279.70 EuroMillions win.

Gavin Blyth’s job as a technical surveyor with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution takes him all over the UK, and his first thought was to use the win to escape for warmer climes.

Gavin, who buys a EuroMillions Lucky Dip® each week, said "June and I didn't manage to get a holiday last year so the first thing we are going to do is book up to go away." June also has her own plans for the win – “lots of bags and shoes!”

The couple had plenty of time for news of the win to sink in as they had to wait a week to get their hands on the cheque.

Gavin explains: “I always check my numbers on the TV but this time I had to double-check them. Then I asked June to triple-check them just in case I had made a mistake. We couldn’t quite believe it – we were actually very calm when we realised we'd won because we were so shocked.

“I checked the ticket on the Saturday morning after the draw. We phoned the claim line straight away but because I was leaving for work on the Monday we had to wait until I got back the following weekend to sort everything out. I obviously had to keep the ticket safe until then so I took a book off the shelf and tucked it into the middle.”
