Life changing

New Welsh EuroMillions winner

A full–time carer from Port Talbot is celebrating after winning a life–changing £1,000,000 on EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker. Wayne Rowles, 45, spends much of his time looking after his 82 year old father and a couple of his elderly friends. Last Friday he popped out to buy each of them a paper and ended up a millionaire.

Wayne gets the bus to the next village to pick up papers for his father and his friends each day. On this trip he also picked up his regular EuroMillions ticket but has barely been able to believe what has happened since.

Checking his numbers the morning after the draw on his TV, he didn’t have any of the main numbers but when he checked the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker code, he didn’t believe what he was seeing. In fact, he was so certain that he couldn’t possibly have won the £1million, he became convinced that his younger brother, renowned for his practical jokes, had somehow found a way to trick him.

Wayne said, “Terence loves practical jokes and this is just the sort of thing that he would find very funny. When I spoke to him he seemed genuinely baffled and it was only once he’d promised that it wasn’t a joke, and I’d checked the numbers again on his phone, that I believed this was really happening.”

After speaking to his brother, Terence, who was just as shocked as he was, he realised that he really had won. Wayne got straight on the phone to Camelot who confirmed that he was now a millionaire. Wayne’s winning UK Millionaire Maker Code was TLCN55819.

“After I’d spoken to Camelot, I just shut my ticket in a drawer and tried not to think about it. Of course, that was impossible and I haven’t really slept since.”

Future Plans

A regular EuroMillions player, Wayne already has plans for his winnings, including buying property locally which he plans to rent out to mountain bikers who come to use the trails in the area. “I work as a full–time carer and this win will help me to have a secure income and continue to be a carer without having to worry about money.”

Apart from investing in property, Wayne plans to buy himself a new car and treat his family, including his three brothers, sister and his daughter, Laura, 21.

“The funny thing is, I thought my brother was winding me up when I saw my numbers come up but when I told my daughter, it was her who thought I was joking! I only managed to convince her when she spoke to her uncle.”

“Laura’s away in university at the moment but I’m very much looking forward to celebrating with her and treating her to something special when she next comes home.”

Wayne celebrated his £1million win with his brother and daughter at Afan Forest Park in Port Talbot. The Past to Present exhibit at the South Wales Miners’ Museum, which is in the park, recently received Lottery funding of £244,100 to develop the museum’s services and highlight the social history and legacy of the Afan and Llyfni valley coal industry.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
