Life changing

£1Million and a new baby – Sunderland dad celebrates an amazing week

A dad from Sunderland is celebrating a £1Million Scratchcard win and the birth of a son in the same week. Kenny Ashton leapt with joy just 48 hours before his wife Gillian was due to give birth to the couple’s first son.

Kenny Ashton became a millionaire on the 20 X Cash Scratchcard from National Lottery GameStore. A shocked Kenny said, “I just cannot believe this has happened to me. I am going through a whole range of emotions, from shock and everything just being a blur, to absolute joy and excitement.

“Gillian is due to give birth on Thursday to our first son together so the win just couldn’t have happened at a better time.”

Dreams do come true

Kenny had a dream he was going to win big on The National Lottery and the morning after he decided to try his luck.

“On my lunch break I popped into the local supermarket and bought the scratchcard – it was simply the card which really took my eye on the stand.

“I immediately scratched it in the supermarket and thought I had won £5. I was absolutely delighted – I couldn’t believe my luck. As I continued to scratch, it then emerged I had won £1Million! I just couldn’t believe it and the news still hasn’t really sunk in.”

Big choices ahead

After the win was confirmed Kenny took no time to start enjoying the life changing win. He immediately went out and made his first purchase – a 7-seater Ford Galaxy car for his expanding family, and a new car for his wife.

He also has a 3 year old daughter with Gillian and 3 children with a previous partner, said going out to order 2 new cars was something he never believed he would be able to do.

Kenny, who lives in a two bedroom rented house and works as a canvasser selling windows and doors, added, “I won’t be giving up work just yet but this win will make things so much easier for us as a family.

“The first thing I did after discovering I had won was to go out and buy two new cars – the people carrier will be fantastic and enable us all to go out together as a family. And it also means Gillian can have her own car too.

“We are still planning what we will spend the money on but I am sure a new house – our own family home – will also be high up on the shopping list.

“This win just provides us with so many options – it gives us choices – choices we could only have ever dreamt of having.”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
