Kitchen manager wins £4Million on a Scratchcard and goes back to work

A man from Trowbridge has scratched his way to a fortune in his break from work, won £4Million and still went back to finish his shift. Kitchen manager Amadou Gillen won the top prize on the £4 Million Black and Gold Scratchcard from National Lottery GameStore.

It was early evening and on a break from working as a kitchen manager at Wetherspoons, Amadou nipped out to buy 2 scratchcards. The first revealed a lovely £20 win and second one made him a millionaire.

He said, “I knew straight away I had won £4million! I went back to work to finish my shift but I didn’t say anything to anyone – I was screaming and dancing inside. It was late when I finished my shift so I made a phone call back home. I was so excited but didn’t tell them anything about the win – I just said I had got lucky and would let know how lucky in time!”

Originally from The Gambia, Amadou has lived in Wiltshire for over 20 years and bought his winning scratchcard in Trowbridge. The first thing he wants to do is ditch his ‘L’ plates. He has never taken his test and plans to splash the cash on an intensive driving course and a new car. He also plans to buy his own home and share his new found wealth with his close family, hopefully paying for his daughter to go to university, and take a dream trip to Jamaica

Still in shock Amadou admits that now it has been confirmed he is a winner and he has seen the bank, it all feels very real. He said, “The win is a life-changer for me. I can now tick all the boxes of everything I’ve ever wanted to do ‐ learn to drive and get a car, own a house, go on holiday and help pay for my daughter’s university education in the UK. Once I’ve looked at how I’m going to invest the money, I will decide what else I want to do, but I have decided not to go back to work.”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
