London man has new business plan after life changing £70,000 win

A lucky man from Feltham will rekindle his business ambitions after a £70,000 win on a National Lottery Gamestore Scratchcard. Balvinder Malhotra will secure his family’s future by buying a convenience store.

The father of one treated himself to the life changing scratchcard after a busy day at work. Balvinder said, “It had been a long day and I wasn’t really paying attention when I started to play the scratchcard, so when it looked like I had won £70,000, I was sure there must be some mistake.”

Balvinder’s wife Hardeep proved even harder to convince. He said, “When I realised that it really was a £70,000 win I called Hardeep who just told me to stop joking. Even after I sent her a picture of the winning scratchcard she wouldn’t believe me and said it was a fake or belonged to someone else. It was only when I got home and showed her the scratchcard that the penny dropped and she burst into tears of joy!”

With Balvinder discovering his amazing win late on Sunday evening, he had to wait until Monday morning to call The National Lottery. This led to a tough decision, where to keep the card, now worth £70,000, overnight.

“Hiding the scratchcard was like a comic skit. First I hid it in the kitchen, then decided that wouldn’t be safe if we had a fire so I went outside and hid it in the car boot. But when I went up to bed I couldn’t help thinking that the car could be stolen so ended up running outside, grabbing the scratchcard and hiding it in the laundry basket in the corner of the bedroom!”

Thankfully the card survived the night and now with the money safe in the bank Balvinder can start to make plans for the future.

“I used to have a small shop but sadly we lost this when some other big retailers moved into the area. I’ve been working really hard to try and buy another convenience store but I still had quite a way to go. This win will give me the financial boost I need and I can now start looking for another shop to buy.”

Balvinder is also thinking of a trip to Dubai or New York to treat his family and celebrate the win.

“The last few years since losing the business have been tough so it will be nice to take a trip somewhere really special to mark this magic moment of luck. I always believed one day I would be able to get another shop. Admittedly I didn’t think it would happen this way but I am delighted that it did – looks like 2016 is going to be a great year for our little family!”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
