Southsea man bags £3.8Million Lotto jackpot

A man from Southsea in Portsmouth has plans to look after his nearest and dearest after his Lucky Dip ticket matched all six numbers to scoop the £3.8Million Lotto Jackpot on Saturday 16th March.

Quiet day in

Leroy Bagley, 42, was buying his stepdad a birthday present when he decided to treat himself to a Lucky Dip for the Lotto draw that night; putting it in his wallet, he thought no more of it.

The following morning, with his mates suggesting they get together to watch the football, Leroy decided he couldn’t really afford to join them down the pub, so planned on staying in.

“I was feeling a bit skint so was readying myself for a quiet day. I turned on the radio and heard an ad for the Lotto, which reminded me to check my ticket. I used The National Lottery app on my phone and when the bell chimed, I looked at the screen, sure I’d won £3,800.”

So chuffed was Leroy with his suspected £3,800 win that he called his stepdad to say he’d had a great win on Saturday’s Lotto.

“I told my stepdad my news and started to think maybe a couple of Sunday pints and some football might be in order. Then he said that there was a single £3.8Million jackpot winner and was I sure the win didn’t have a few more zeroes. I looked again and realised my very exciting £3,800 was actually £3,800,000!”

A father to one daughter, Leroy wasted no time in calling Camelot to confirm the win on Sunday afternoon before shakily signing the back of his life-changing ticket and hiding it safely away.

Leroy then shared the news with his friends and family.

“It was an unbelievable feeling. I rang my brother and some of my closest mates to tell them the news before popping around to Mum's. Being able to have a drink with my mum and tell her that she never had to worry about money ever again was magic, and really beats any other grand plan I might have.”

The best bit

With £3.8Million, Leroy could be forgiven for some very grand plans but top of his list is looking after those that matter most.

“Without doubt the best bit about this win will be helping out friends and family. We’re all going to have a great time and some really good stuff will come from this win because I can help those who really matter to me. Whether it’s helping with a holiday or setting up my daughter for life, the worries have gone and the financial security is now there.”

Not a total saint…

While sharing his win with his nearest and dearest is top of the list, Leroy isn’t a total saint! He’s also planning on swapping his BT van for a dream car, either a Range Rover or, if his brother has his way, an Aston Martin.

While being Portsmouth born and bred, Leroy has no immediate plans to move but will be heading off on holiday soon and might just treat himself to a bolthole in the sun.
