Scottish family celebrate third big win

A Bo’ness family have become one of the luckiest in the land after banking a third big National Lottery win. Their latest success saw a £1Million Lotto Millionaire Raffle prize delivered to their door.

The Fry family syndicate, made up of Peter, Mary and their three daughters – Margaret, Janet and Isobel – celebrated sharing the £1Million prize in the small Scottish town.

Luck obviously runs in the genes as daughter Margaret had already won £20,000 on the Lotto Millionaire Raffle in 2015.

Amazingly they follow Peter’s cousin Annette Brown who was crowned the UK’s 2,500th National Lottery millionaire when she won a £1,151,496 Lotto jackpot in 2010.

Annette passed on her congratulations when she was told of her cousin's win. “I’m so happy for Peter - it couldn’t have happened to a better man and talk about keeping it in the family! Winning The National Lottery made my life so much easier and I hope it’s the same for him. I can’t wait to see him and celebrate our luck together in person.”

‘Wee bit of money’

Margaret described how dad Peter discovered the win when he went to get his tickets checked as normal at the local supermarket. “The till operator advised him that he had won a ‘wee bit of money’ and it was too much to pay out in the store – thinking it was around £500, he had no idea we were about to become millionaires!”

After Peter got home and told wife Mary the couple called Margaret over to their house. “The first thing I did was go straight over as I knew it could be big. We called Camelot together, and after confirming all the details they asked if we knew how much it was worth.

“When we were told £1 million we were in such shock – my mum kept saying ‘a million?’ in such disbelief. It was the most amazing feeling!

Calls were immediately made to fellow syndicate members and daughters Isobel and Janet. Margaret says the whole family were now amazed. “My mum shared the news with my 2 sisters and they were in as much shock as us. As a family we’re always played the game but never really believed we would win a substantial amount, this shows that it could be anyone – it’s truly life changing.”

A family affair

Peter and Mary, who are retired, have 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren with another one on the way.

“I think the best thing about this for us is that we can take care of the family. My mum and dad will be able to buy their house and make changes which will help my mum who struggles to get about. I think my sisters and I need to let it all sink in a bit more before we even start thinking about what we’re going to buy.”

2016 is turning into a remarkable year for the family who topped off celebrating Peter’s 90th birthday, and Mary and Peter’s 65th anniversary with this life changing win. They’ll also welcome their sixth great-grandchild into the world in July. They’ve confirmed that they will be continuing the family syndicate to see if luck comes their way again.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
