Lucky numbers come up trumps
David and Donna Hendry from Edinburgh won half of a Lotto Triple Rollover jackpot, banking an incredible £4,078,509. David popped into the post office before Christmas and decided to play his lucky numbers for three weeks in advance so he wouldn’t miss any draws over the festive period.
David looked at the Lotto results and saw his life change on the spot. David said, “I woke up on Thursday morning after the draw and checked the winning numbers on my mobile phone as usual, to see whether I’d won anything. It was 6:30am and my wife Donna and our son were in the house. I knew immediately I had won the jackpot as I knew the numbers off by heart."
David has always been a regular Lotto player, using family birthdays to create his two lines
"I told Donna first, who obviously didn’t believe me until I showed her our ticket. We then told our 12 year old son who was ‘flabbergasted’ especially when we went onto the BBC website and he saw the full amount we had won. It is his birthday next week, so I think he’s already thought of a lot of extra presents he would like!”
As it was still really early and The National Lottery Line had not yet opened, David carried on with his normal routine and took Donna’s car for its annual MOT. He said, “I tried not to say too much to anyone at the garage as I was still in shock and I didn’t want to blurt it out – we’ve still only told a few people so far, until now!”
Donna and David haven’t decided whether they are giving up work yet, but they are going to move house and indulge in a few good family holidays. David added, “I love Elvis so maybe a trip to Gracelands could be on the cards.”
