Syndicate of social workers celebrate success

A syndicate of 40 social workers from Kinloss in Hull are celebrating after scooping over £50,000 on Lotto. The ‘The Kinloss 40’, all work in the social services department for Hull City Council and have each pocketed £1,300.

The syndicate, who have played for over 12 years, found out they had won a small fortune when syndicate leader, Susan Beech, checked the tickets the day after the draw.

Sue recalls, “I always check the numbers the day after the draw but never expect to win. I started to go through the numbers and suddenly stopped as I realised we had matched five numbers and the bonus ball. I went over and over the numbers to make sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks on me. I had to tell someone, so I rang fellow syndicate member Deborah Graves. 'We’ve won the lottery!' I said.”

First thing on Monday morning, the mum-of-one shared the good news with the rest of the team. “Everyone was in disbelief when I told them,” said Sue. “I wanted to be able to tell as many people as possible at the same time so I had a job keeping it a secret for a whole day! Although it’s not a huge amount, everyone was over the moon as we’ve never won anything this big before.”

Although few definitive plans have been made, all of the syndicate members are looking forward to spending their winnings, with holidays and weddings at the top of the list. “I’m not sure what I am going to spend the money on yet,” added Sue, “My husband, Alan and I will probably put it towards a nice holiday. It’s just enough to be able to splash out on a few nice things for the two of us.”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
