Morecambe couple land £6.3 million Lotto win

Imagine watching The National Lottery draw on TV and seeing your six numbers come out one after another. That is exactly what happened to Denise and Robert Scarr from Morecombe.

The couple then faced an excruciating two-hour wait to discover exactly how much they had won.

Denise said, “We finally discovered we were the only ones and had won more than £6M. It is just life changing and totally unbelievable – a massive amount of money.”

The couple, who have both quit their jobs, are now planning a retirement with no financial worries, a holiday they have only ever dreamed of, and will be buying a top-of-the-range BMW. This is all in addition to looking after their family, including seven children and 15 grandchildren.

Denise describes the moment she and her husband discovered they had won, “We were sat watching the television and the live draw show. I wasn’t paying that much attention, I was messing around on my laptop.”

“Robert saw the first ball drop and shouted out ‘we have one number’, then it was ‘we have two numbers’, as the third ball dropped he just screamed ‘we have £25, three numbers!’

“The conversation just went on and I went numb, the next thing Robert shouted was ‘oh my goodness, we have four numbers’. It was at that point I started to pay attention, we had five, and then Robert just let out this almighty scream, even louder than the first – ‘we have won the jackpot!’”

"Things like this don’t happen to people like us.”

Denise, who worked at Dunelm Mill in Morecambe, immediately handed in her notice as did Robert, who previously worked at a quarry. “Retirement was first on the agenda. The win has enabled us to both retire early and look forward to fulfilling all of our life-long dreams.”

The couple had been planning and saving for their dream holiday, a cruise. “We have both longed to go on a cruise for years but were trying to manage the finances around this and the countries we wanted to visit – now the world is our oyster – a world cruise will definitely be booked for us now.”

A new top of the range BMW is also a priority on the shopping list, together with a move to a bigger house and lots of gifts for the family. Denise added, “I can now even buy myself a whole new wardrobe without feeling any guilt.”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
