Hospital staff scoop Lotto win

A syndicate of 25 nurses and staff from Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy have banked a Christmas bonus with a timely Lotto win.

Their syndicate won £126,530 in the Lotto draw on Wednesday 10 December each taking home £5,061 each.

Syndicate leader and nurse practitioner Shirley Brader discovered they had won when she check her tickets with a local retailer, “We bought three Lucky Dips for the Wednesday Lotto draw and also for the EuroMillions draw on the Tuesday that week. On Thursday I remembered that I hadn't checked the numbers and went into my local shop. When the shopkeeper scanned the winning ticket all he could say was ‘You're going to be rich!’”

“I came straight home and phoned the National Lottery Line. When it was confirmed we had won I phoned the ward and asked them to spread the good news. We got lucky with one of our EuroMillions lines too and won £3.20!”

The syndicate has been running for 18 years and although people have come and gone, Shirley has been part of it since the very beginning.

“We buy seven Lotto lines every week and some EuroMillions Lucky Dips. The most we have ever won before was just over £1,000. We normally save up our winnings until we reach £2,500 and then give every member £100. We've been able to do this twice before.”

“It's great to get a boost like this right before Christmas. Some of the girls have talked about using the money for holidays, putting towards a new car, or sprucing up their houses. One thing they will be using it for is more lottery tickets. We've all agreed that £52 will be taken off everyone's winnings to pay for next year's syndicate!”
