Life changing

Builder’s early morning buy banks big win!

An Ayrshire builder shocked his workmates when he won £300,000 on National Lottery GameStore. Each Friday he treats himself to a Scratchcard on the way to work and revealed the top prize win when he arrived on site at 7.30am.

David Abercrombie, 26, from Irvine won the £300,000 top prize on the Lucky Lines Yellow Scratchcard from National Lottery GameStore. Each Friday he buys a Scratchcard as a treat on the way to work and this week it turned out to be life changing.

“I scratched the card when I got to the site and I was completely stunned. I said to my workmate ‘I’ve won the top prize’. He didn’t believe me at first and took it off me to see for himself. Everyone was cheering when they realised I’d won.”

The wait

David immediately returned to the shop where he purchased the card and was told he had to call The National Lottery line.

“The worst thing was it was only 7:30am and I had to wait until 9am for the claim line to open. The minute the clock hit 9:00am I was straight on the phone. I can’t tell you how I felt waiting for that hour and a half."

“After I’d spoken to Camelot, I signed the back of the Scratchcard and put it in my pocket. I kept my hand in that pocket all day just in case. Not much work got done I can assure you!”

Be wise

David has made plans for spending his windfall, but is heeding the advice of his girlfriend to “be wise”.

“We will be buying a bigger house so my two little girls will get bedrooms of their own – they’ve already started picking out the décor. I want to put some money away for their future. A new car is on the list too, something like a Mercedes, not too flashy."

Given that builders are traditionally the nation’s luckiest Lottery profession, David is hoping his luck comes in again.

“I have always said things like this don’t happen to people like me, but I was obviously in the right place at the right time. I think I will keep buying my weekly Scratchcard and see if Lottery luck strikes twice.”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
