Life changing

Dad promises best for family after Scratchcard win

A father of four from Doncaster who banked £100,000 on a Scratchcard has said the win will change his life and the life of his family forever. The Doncaster dad won the top prize on the 10X Cash Scratchcard from National Lottery GameStore.

Luke Feely, 28, said, “I can’t believe it, I’m still in shock to this moment. Things like this just don’t normally happen to me. The win has given me a great opportunity to make sure my family have the very best going forward.”

Luke, who is currently unemployed following an injury during his time as a rail engineer, was doing the family shop at his local retailer when he decided to purchase a Scratchcard that would turn his world upside down.

“I normally only buy a couple of Scratchcards every now and then. It’s usually a spur of the moment thing. Maybe lady luck was looking down on me this time? I stuck the Scratchcard in my pocket and went about my day as normal, not realising I had something that was worth £100k sitting there.”

It wasn’t until later that day, stuck in a traffic jam on his way home, that Luke realised he had yet to scratch the Scratchcard. Using a 20p coin leftover in his car, Luke revealed the six figure sum.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, I checked and then checked again. It must have been three, four, maybe five times before it started to register what I’d done. I started shouting with excitement. I think the people in the cars next to me might have been confused as to what was happening!”

Best news ever

When Luke eventually returned home, the first person he told was his long term partner, Jilly, 23, who was initially concerned by his news.

She explained, “When Luke came in, I immediately knew something was up. He looked shaken as if he had bad news to tell me. I thought he was going to say he was involved in a car accident."

“When he told me that he’d actually won £100,000, I just couldn’t believe it. The worry of bad news turned into the best news ever! We both just looked at each other, tears streaming down our faces, thinking of how this will change everything for our little family.”

Luke and Jilly have four young children, one son and three daughters, one of which has Down Syndrome. Jilly has been working as a carer and has now gone full-time as a care worker.

Jilly said, “The people of Doncaster have been so great looking after our daughter and I’ve always wanted to give back to the community. This way I can help those most in need as well as my daughter.”

Top of the family shopping list is a dream holiday to Majorca – a first holiday abroad as a family. Luke said, “Money has been tight and with our daughter’s condition, we’ve never managed to get away as a family before. Now thanks to this win, we’re going to be able to treat them to the holiday they deserve.”
