Launderette coins wash up £200Thousand

A couple from Manchester are 'counting their blessings' after a broken tumble dryer led to them winning £200,000 on a National Lottery Scratchcard. After an emergency trip to the launderette, they had £3 in spare change leftover - just enough for a Winter Wonderlines scratchcard.

Mary Roscoe, 51, said she was so shocked to uncover £200Thousand that she didn’t even fold their newly laundered clothes.

"We have been waiting to get our tumble dryer fixed so I've been going down the road to get my clothes dry at the launderette. Once I had finished, I decided to pop into a nearby shop. I only had £3 in my pocket, leftover from using the launderette, and I just fancied my chances on a scratchcard. There was something about this one that caught my eye. It was £3 so I went for it."

Mary described the moment she discovered she was £200Thousand richer: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I just raced home, I didn't even fold my clothes! Everything was such a blur, I must have felt every emotion under the sun."

Knocked for six

Emotional from the news, Mary immediately surprised her husband Will, 56, at his place of work. Despite being together for over 33 years and married for 11 years, it was out of character for Mary to turn up at Will's work unannounced.

Will, who is a bar steward, explained, "Mary never normally shows up at my work during the day so I knew she had something important to tell me. Every worst case scenario goes through your head but this time it was the best possible news. Never in a million years did I ever think that she had won £200Thousand. That knocked me for six."

Laundry list

Top of the pair's shopping list, after a new tumble dryer, is an upgrade to Mary's Hyundai Getz.

"The car has been on its last legs for a while so it will be nice to get something new. One of my sons has his eyes on a convertible but I think something for the whole family is much better.

"It's so nice to have no money worries, especially as we approach Christmas. It will all help make this the best Christmas yet."

Mary and Will are now looking where to go for some winter sun, something that they previously haven't been able to afford.

"Will has grand ideas for a safari in Madagascar but I think I would prefer to sun myself on a beach in The Bahamas. We just have so many choices now."
