Bolton barmaid pulls £250Thousand
A barmaid from Bolton is raising a celebratory glass after becoming a quarter of a million pounds richer thanks to a National Lottery Scratchcard she bought before her Sunday work shift.
Karen Whitty, 48, who works at The Rosehill Tavern in Bolton, was out doing her weekly shop when the £250,000 Red Scratchcard caught her eye.
“I normally pop to the shops on my way to work. On this particular day, I just had a lucky feeling. This particular scratchcard just caught my eye. I scratched it straight after buying it and before I even left the shop. While I was scratching it I just had a lovely feeling. But then I could not actually believe what I was seeing when it really was a winner and not just a dream – it was all of these zeros flashing in front of my eyes.”
Not wanting to let her colleagues or regular customers down, Karen continued about her daily routine and went to work her shift at the pub, even though she was in a bit of a daze from all the excitement.
Special treatsKaren said thanks to the win she can now afford to move out of her council house and get driving lessons.
"Learning to drive has always been on my list of things to do but there’s always been a bill to pay first. Now I have the money to spend on nice things like clothes, meals out and special treats for my family, something I’ve not always been able to afford."
Warm holidayTop of Karen’s shopping list is a holiday abroad for herself and her partner, Colin Everitt, 49.
"I didn’t think I could go anywhere on holiday before Christmas but now the world is our oyster. I definitely want to go somewhere warm, maybe Dubai or even the Caribbean? What an exciting end to 2018!"
Pulling out all the stopsThe mother of five and grandmother of seven, is now looking forward to her best Christmas ever thanks to her windfall.
"I’ve got a big family so I’ll make this a Christmas to remember for everyone. It will feel like we have all won the lottery. Every parent worries that they won’t be able to afford nice presents but this year I will pull out all the stops."
