A sparkling June for winners
We’re already halfway through 2020 and even the world’s most polished crystal ball would have struggled to predict what the first six months of this year would look like.
The good news is that players have continued to win fantastic prizes. In June, 36 prizes of £1Million or more were won on National Lottery games (that’s 6 more than May).
We got to meet Marcin Jedrzejewski, 40, who has been driving around the country delivering essential supplies during the coronavirus lockdown. He could barely believe his luck when he scored £350,000 on a £1 Lotto HotPicks Lucky Dip. Read his story in full.
In keeping with the general weirdness of 2020, we also asked what a smoke monster, polar bear and hatch buried in a forest has got to do with The National Lottery. It turns out that fans of the TV show Lost had been using the series’ iconic numbers as inspiration when buying tickets. So when several of these numbers appeared in the Set For Life draw on 15th June, it had a rather wonderful result – a lot of new winners. Read the full story.
Coronavirus has also changed things for the British public’s winning wish list. We conducted some research into what people would like to do if they won a big prize, and the extended lockdown has changed priorities for many. Top of that list is getting an allotment or growing your own vegetables but can you guess what else is in the new wishlist?
Perhaps Mrs M, from Tyne and Wear, will opt for number 5 on the wishlist and move to the seaside. She’s looking to put a deposit on a new house after winning £10,000 a month for a year on Set For Life.
Holidays were important to Mr L, from Kent, who was lucky enough to win the Set For Life top prize of £10,000 a month for 30 years. Once it’s safe again, perhaps he’ll be one of the people buying a camper van to explore hidden gems around the UK (that’s number 11).
Also celebrating was Mr L from Portsmouth, who is enjoying a £1Million win after buying a Lucky Dip for the 27th June Lotto draw on The National Lottery website.
Good luck to everyone playing in July, stay safe and enjoy your haircut (we’re all getting one, let’s be honest).
