Lotto’s iconic slogan and golden hand are back

The iconic “It Could Be You” advertising tagline used to launch The National Lottery in November 1994 is back. The slogan and the image of a giant gold hand have not been seen on screens for many years. Both have been reimagined to reach new audiences in support of Lotto, the nation’s millionaire-making game.

As The National Lottery’s flagship game, Lotto has created over 3,500 millionaires since the first draw was held in November 1994. The National Lottery will use the new ad to show that real people win the game as well lending a bit of support to a nation that is longing for a bit of hope and 'what if’ moments. The campaign features real Lotto millionaires in cameo roles declaring “We won, and you could too!”.

The winners featured in the ad include Sarah Cockings from Newcastle who was 21 when she won an incredible £3Million Lotto jackpot. Chris and Geraldine Bradley from South Wales, who were part of a family syndicate that won £3.5Million in 2006, also make an appearance along with Gary MacDonald who scooped a £5Million jackpot in April this year.

The results of a National Lottery survey of more than 2,500 people reveals Britons would like more hope in their lives and we are, at heart, a nation of believers. The survey found 98 percent of people believe the nation could do with a bit of hope right now. A further 89 percent have their fingers crossed for something good to happen and 41 percent are hoping to win Lotto.

Underlining the nation’s optimism, the survey found 53 percent of people consider themselves lucky and 72 percent believe being positive or hopeful can change the outcome of events.

Ultimately, “It Could Be You”. All you need is a bit of belief and a Lotto ticket.
