Winning ways to spend this Easter
Get ready for an egg–cellent Easter. Across the country, at venues funded by National Lottery players (yes, you!), there are loads of great family activities taking place – from egg hunts to art projects and lots, lots more.
National Museum of Rural life, East Kilbride
Three fun–filled days start on Saturday 15th when the kids can meet all the traditional baby spring animals – lambs, calves and chicks – plus the less traditional, such as skunks and hedgehogs! And don’t be ‘late, for a very important date’ because on Monday 17th there will even be a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.
Cardiff Castle, Cardiff
Storm the castle keep and take the kids on an Easter trail complete with puzzles to solve along the way. Then it’s all about eggs – egg rolling, egg decorating and egg and spoon races. Just don’t end up with egg on your face.
Beamish Museum, County Durham
Amaze the kids with a leap back in time to see how Easter was celebrated in the 1800s and 1900s. Then you’ll want to get involved with the dying of eggs to ‘jarp’ and roll. No idea? Us neither. But according to the Collins English Dictionary, to ‘jarp’ is to strike or smash, especially to break the shell of an egg at Easter. Awesome.
Blackwell The Arts and Crafts House, Bowness–on–Windermere
Looking for something different this Easter? Wow the kids with the inspirational Lights Fantastic event. Trip the light fantastic at this hands on interactive experience for families to discover the magical beauty of light, colours and reflections by manipulating projections onto walls. Cool.
Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle
Quentin Blake has drawn one of the most famous characters EVER in the world of chocolate… Willy Wonka. Send your budding creative geniuses to art workshops at the Laing this Easter where they’ll be inspired by Quentin Blake’s famous illustrations.
Castle Espie Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre, County Down
Hey! Where’d that duck go? You and the kids will need all your special detective skills to help Dusty Duck find the missing giant yellow ducks this Easter, but persevere and you might just win a tasty chocolate treat.
Stepney City Farm, London
Be a good egg and take the kids down to the City Farm on April 16th. Meet the farm’s animals, including some spritely spring chickens and don’t miss the free treasure hunt. Happy Easter egg hunting!
Eden Project, Cornwall
The egg-heads down at the Eden Project have mixed things up this Easter. Yes, there’s an Easter egg hunt – but there are also plenty of quirky egg–themed games, such as nestball (their version of netball), an egg-scramble course, hook–a–duck and a golden egg or two to find.
