How you've turned a gardening project into a life-saver

Spring is in the air and what better time to get outside and explore your local area. Thanks to you, organisations like The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), are reclaiming and transforming neglected public spaces into areas the whole community can enjoy – and there's lots of benefits for the volunteers involved too.

We went to see how the volunteers were getting on at one of the projects you've supported, the Hollybush Conservation Centre in Leeds. Click on the link above to watch a short film about how they get a huge range of people from the community involved, and how this has led to some pretty amazing results for the volunteers themselves, as well as the environment they’re working on.

John Preston, project manager of TCV Hollybush, says "Neglecting green places is a false economy. It doesn't take long for a once-loved open space to become a magnet for anti-social behaviour, and a cost to society. Thanks to National Lottery players, we’ve been able to provide a safe place for a broad range of people to make friends, develop their confidence and learn new skills through volunteering, as well as having a positive impact on the environment."

You've supported more than 40,000 environmental projects, like Hollybush, helping people and places across the UK.

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,400 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
