Josephine built her own community at parkrun

Fleeing war in Uganda with the hope of starting a new life brought Josephine to the UK. To celebrate International Women’s Day she explained how National Lottery funded parkrun has changed her life.

For Josephine it all started when she searched online for her local parkrun. Discovering it was close to her home, she started to take part in the run, and soon began to get others involved in the weekly exercise programme.

Josephine has built up trust with other local parkrunners who have struggled emotionally, and they’ve all supported each other. She teaches them words in Swahili and they look out for one another.

You can hear Josephine’s story in her own words in the video below.

By playing The National Lottery you have helped parkrun to reach 706 locations across the UK. As you can see from Josephine’s story, you never know how a 5Thousand run might change your life.

To mark International Women’s Day, parkrun has a special event planned on the 7th March. You can sign up for it, or any other weekly run on the parkrun website.
