How you’re helping people with learning disabilities find love and friendship
Dates-n-mates is Scotland’s first dating and friendship agency. It is run by and for adults with learning disabilities and launched eight years ago to help people make friends and find love.
It runs up to six social events each month for its 150 members, anything from creative workshops to inclusive club nights. The events calendar is packed with speed dating, speed meets, LGBT events and trips to the cinema. There are meals out, karaoke, quizzes, bowling, a book club and themed parties.
Finding “the one” can be a challenge but dates-n-mates runs supported first dates and helps would-be-daters with their confidence, social independence and personal relationship skills. The variety of activities and combination of members-only and “open” events ensures people with learning disabilities get the best chance to meet like-minded people who share their interests.
Your support also creates exciting employment opportunities for individuals with learning disabilities. There are four directorships at dates-n-mates, two in Glasgow and two in Aberdeen.
