Watch what happened when these unsuspecting shoppers went to buy their lottery ticket

The National Lottery's "voice of the balls", Alan Dedicoat, surprised unsuspecting lottery players recently as they bought their tickets at a busy supermarket in Cumbernauld, Scotland.

Alan took over the tannoy system and singled out shoppers as they bought their tickets, while cashiers handed over surprise gifts with their change. The gifts – including a violin, ice skates and a snowboard – represent just some of National Lottery funded projects in the local area (a theatre, ice rink and ski centre).

Les Nelson, recipient of ice skates, said: "This is amazing – I was expecting a couple of pound in change after buying my Lotto ticket, not a pair of figure skates and lessons at the Time Capsule. It's terrific to know I'm supporting my community by playing. It's certainly something I'll think about every time I buy a ticket in the future. Let's just hope I'm a natural on the ice!"

Hidden cameras captured all the reactions. Watch the film above to see for yourself.
