The National Lottery Awards: 27th September 2017
From car mechanics to conservation schemes, roller girls to rehabilitation, the National Lottery Awards celebrate the projects that go above and beyond to build communities and change lives.
A grand total of 49 incredible causes have come together for this year's National Lottery Awards. Through playing The National Lottery you support projects that work across art, education, health, heritage, sport, culture and charity. We’ve pulled together a sample of our shortlist.
Dance Syndrome
Shortlisted in the Arts category, Dance Syndrome provides a platform for people with learning disabilities to train and perform in dance. Set up by Jen Blackwell, Dance Syndrome works with dancers with a range of disabilities and abilities to empower people through dance.
Bravehound
Mick McConnell was introduced to Sacha by Bravehound, a charity that supports veterans who are struggling to adapt back into civilian life. The project, which matches dogs with retired servicemen, focuses on those who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, helping to provide routine, companionship and regain a sense of pride.
Auld Reekie Roller Girls
With their feisty attitude and skater names such as ‘Diamond Slayer’ and ‘Skinner Alive’, Scotland’s roller scene is often described as “rugby on roller skates”. But as well as being high-octane, competitive and fun, roller derby also offers an accessible sport for women of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
