Olympic and Paralympic stars celebrate your amazing contribution and say a big thank you!

“National Lottery funding has transformed sport at all levels, including grassroots clubs, facilities, coaches and elite sport,” said Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, an athlete who has, herself, won 16 Paralympic medals including 11 golds in her 27 year career.

Over 5000 athletes have benefitted from National Lottery funding, winning a staggering 864 medals since 1997. To show what an amazing achievement this is, 25 of the UK’s best joined Tanni Grey-Thompson in Stratford, next to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with some giant numbers and massive medals. It was all to say a big thank you to National Lottery players for playing and supporting UK athletes.

And there’s a lot to say thank you for. At Rio 2016, both the Olympic and Paralympic teams came second on the medal table - a truly remarkable achievement. That’s thanks to the winning combination of our amazingly talented athletes and brilliant players helping to fund grassroots athletics
