Overcoming addiction and becoming a mum again

Bryony Morris, a young mum from Plymouth, has suffered from depression since she was 15. She used to self-medicate with alcohol to cope with the uncomfortable feelings which did little to help her escape from her dark place.

Her journey to recovery began at a local day centre for drug and alcohol rehabilitation where she discovered National Lottery funded project Sailing Tectona that provides sailing training for adults in recovery from mental health and substance abuse.

Having been through the training, Bryony’s life now has a renewed sense of purpose.

She said: “I’m most of the way there, I’m stronger in my ability to parent. The children have their mum back.”

Sailing Tectona recently won an additional £50,000 through The People’s Projects which has enabled them to double the number of voyages they can offer to people.

See how Tectona is using National Lottery funding to help people like Bryony to overcome their past and set sail for a bright new future.
