An online player is called to be told “You’re a millionaire!”

A couple from Chippenham only discovered they were millionaires when they were called up and told by The National Lottery. They had assumed the email encouraging them to check their account was in relation to a £25 win – a MONTH later they discovered it was actually all about a million.

Ruth and Peter Doyle play via direct debit to ensure they never miss a draw, but they did miss the all-important fact they were big winners. Ruth reveals, “When I got the call telling me I’d won I thought it was a wind up! I had had an email from The National Lottery telling me I’d won but it didn’t say how much, just that there was some good news and that I should log into my account.”

Ruth had mistakenly checked her bank account and assumed the £25 paid in was her only win. If she had checked her National Lottery account she would have seen there was a far larger sum waiting for her. They banked the £1M EuroMillions prize in the draw on Tuesday 23rd June, but weren’t alerted to their new wealth until two months later.

Ruth said, “When I received the call we were so excited but we couldn’t take it in. It only became real when we visited the offices at Camelot and met the team who were very professional and made us feel extremely special. We have kept the news to ourselves until now and our good fortune has just about sunk in. I think when everyone knows we’ll have a little celebration.”

Ruth has vowed to continue playing both Lotto and EuroMillions. “We started playing EuroMillions because you can set up a Direct Debit for it, and as my husband and I travel a lot for work, it makes it more convenient – we’d never remember to buy tickets otherwise!”

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
