Oz beckons for oil rig worker
George Kinghorn an offshore worker discovered his giant EuroMillions Mega Friday win but had to go back to work for three weeks before he could claim his prize. He is now celebrating with £1M and a dream trip to a private island in Australia.
George, who plays online, received news of his win when he returned from a holiday in Tenerife. However he was soon off back to work in the North Sea and had to wait three weeks to confirm his win.
George said, "I always play online so I have had emails before with small wins. Sandra and I were driving back from the airport when I quickly scanned the email and thought it would be the same size of win that I’d had before."
"I only realised how much I'd won when I went online the following night to put my lines on for the Saturday draw. I actually turned the computer off and back on again – I was sure it was a mistake."
"We just wanted to make sure it really said £1,000,000 not £1,000. We were in total shock. It still hasn't really sunk in yet."
The couple haven't yet decided how they will spend their win:
"We really haven't thought about what we will do with the money; in fact we haven't even had chance to celebrate yet! We have just been taking it all in. I like to play golf on my time off so I think I will take a few friends away for a week's golfing."
One thing they won’t need to spend their winnings on is a holiday – normally one of the top purchases for National Lottery winners. George and Sandra will be whisked off on a private island getaway which will see the winner and seven friends fly business class to Australia before a helicopter transfer to the amazing Makepeace Island on Australia's Sunshine Coast. There they will experience 14 nights of pure indulgence with their own private chef, personal spa treatments and a sunset cruise.
The amazing Mega Friday draws will continue on the last Friday of each month. They will create multiple £1 million winners who will also receive life-changing prizes as they start their millionaire life.
The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,400 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
