Millionaire Matt’s flying high

Over 20 years, players of all ages and from all walks of life have become overnight millionaires thanks to the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Raffle (now known as the Millionaire Maker). When Matt Myles, a 27-year-old factory worker from Hereford, woke up a millionaire, it was his big chance to see the world, and he didn’t waste any time in joining the jet set.

Matt was working long, hard shifts as an electrical engineer in a factory when a EuroMillions ticket he bought on the spur of the moment netted him a £1 million win. Before his feet could even hit the ground he was already packing his bags for the round-the-world adventure of a lifetime.

Matt was about to punch the clock on another shift when he checked a EuroMillions ticket he’d bought on a whim. He didn’t match the winning jackpot numbers and was about to bin his ticket when he remembered that he also needed to check the all-important UK Millionaire Raffle – and then his whole life changed.

"The first three letters caught my eye – PCC," he said. "I then checked the rest and couldn’t believe what I was seeing, they all matched."

It didn’t take long for Matt to decide what to do with his incredible windfall. By the very next day, he had quit his job, packed his bags and set off to see the world.

"I love travelling," he said, "and have some good friends in Indonesia who were still up when I found out I had won, so I FaceTimed them to tell them my news. They were all so excited for me they said I should fly out and join them. It was an invitation that I just couldn’t refuse – so the next day my brother and I as well as two of my best friends all decided to book flights and go!"

Matt quit his job, packed his bags and set off to see the world.

Matt’s already been to Indonesia and Thailand, and he’s also been to Brazil for the World Cup – where we’re sure England’s disappointing results haven’t dampened his spirits too much, since next he’s off to Ibiza to keep the party going.

And after that, what’s next for the young millionaire?

"I’ll probably come home to see my family over Christmas," Matt said, "but other than that I have no idea when I’ll be back. Winning has changed my life overnight and from now on I really do feel like the world is my oyster!"

The National Lottery has been changing the lives of winners and supporting good causes across the UK since 1994. In that time, there have been more than 7,000 new millionaires created and by playing The National Lottery you raise over £4 million for Good Causes every dayΔ.
